At the Golden Temple

My first ever visit to a budhist temple. These photographs were taken by Claire Hart.

We went to the Golden Temple on monday, when the sun was shining between some colder days. Claire, Eva, Ilma and me. The Golden Temple Garden was a gift to the Emperors girlfriend. We took a bus there, and it took quite a while before the bus took itself through all the city to the opposite corner of it. Inside the gate, people on their way to offer for the gods to get some happiness during the year. Mostly to get money, like Luo Fei said. Also enjoying the lesure time promenading in the park and buying snacks and toys.Beside the small temple itself there was a smaller building like an oven in which people put insence inside to burn in a real fire. The smoke coming out of the fire would go to gods and bring the prayers` wishes up to the gods. Beside the oven building there was a tree decorated with these nice golden things.
But the atmosphere in the temple was quite ordinary, people everywhere looking at places or trying to get the candles burn or some looked like they where on a holiday, some bowing down towards all directions with her burning insence sticks. Claire thought it all looked cheap. I liked the way the holy was such a normal part of their everyday life, not too important though (I`m not very religious). Here they burn insence in front of one of the houses with three wise men inside, or sculptures of them. On the veranda, there was a sculpture of a seated bull, decorated with red ribbons. People were stroking its head, I assume that it would bring good luck or something alike. There was also a roulette made of jade, bringing answers to questions, depending on where it stopped.
Just outside the inner temple area there was this kind of garden with less people, water and goldfish and frog babies in it.Ilma running around a tree with a windmill Claire bought for her trying to make it go round. Here we sat down to eat some oranges and to rest.
Outside the inner area there were also bonsai gardens and magnolia trees in blossom.
A small house just the right size for Ilma,
with a big stone turtle in front of it. Ilma enjoyed this little house and the turtle, allowing other visitors to photograph her riding. Another miniature house, a watch tower for the garden.
The temple area was much bigger than we visited, the buildings were on the top of a forest hill, around it were paths and some separate buildings, like a cafe (I saw it on a model of the hill, but I`m sure there is no coffee).
